About the App

Angler Corner was a solo-project inspired from... an accidental challenge.

At the Apple Developer Academy, we have "break" times, called bridge, between every larger project. I decided to bring in my Oculus Quest as a fun thing to do for everyone who wanted to try it over Bridge. We loaded into A Simple Fishing World on VRChat, and Angler Corner was born.

When Jokes Get Real

My friend Jacob would sit next to me every day I came into class, so it was only right for him to try the fishing game first. There's a plethora of fish you can catch in there, but he somehow managed to catch a rain boot worth 162 points. Cool, I guess? Next up is my admin mentor, Kevin. Same deal, except because his glasses did not fit into the headset, he had to take them off. We called him "The Blind Fisherman" as a result. Despite this obvious handicap, he still managed to bring in a rare fish worth 172 points, and just like that, the challenge was started. Everyone want's to beat The Blind Fisherman.

Another mentor of mine who I loved to bug any chance that I got recommended I make a leaderboard app as a cool little bridge project, and after some consideration, Angler Corner became my next project.

Simpler is Usually Better

The idea behind the app is simple. There's 4 screens total: The leaderboard, the game queue, the hall of fame, and some clarification for the clueless visitor who downloads my app from TestFlight (link will be below!)

The 3 main screens all have a very consistent UI, making good use of iOS native componenets like lists. I expected this to take much longer than expected, but SwiftUI really did come to the rescue on this one.

Fishing for Compliments

I managed to pretty much complete the app in 2 days. There may be some things added later, but for now, it's done!

You can find the project on Github (click the image on the right), as well as on TestFlight (the link below)! Happy fishing, and if you have a feature you think would be fun to add, I'd probably agree! Give me some feedback on TestFlight, and compliment me too.
